Expert assessment and treatment of sports injuries to the shoulder in the West Midlands
The most mobile joint in the body, the shoulder is subject to the extreme demands imposed by sporting activities, with the mechanisms of the injury being often specific to a particular sport, e.g. swimmer's shoulder, rugby shoulder, golf shoulder, etc. Common sporting injuries include repeated dislocation, the development of bony spurs that trap the rotator cuff tendons (impingement syndrome), tears of the rotator cuff tendons, rupture of the biceps tendon, detachment of the biceps anchor from the bone (SLAP tear), damage to the cushion of cartilage surrounding the socket of the shoulder joint (the labrum) and fractures.
With a special interest in the treatment of sports injuries to the shoulder, Mr Geeranavar offers rapid investigation of shoulder symptoms using arthroscopy and imaging techniques such as CT and MRI, where necessary. The majority of conditions can now be treated arthroscopically, resulting in a shorter stay in hospital and a quicker recovery time compared to conventional open surgery.
