Mr Angus Robertson BSc, MB, ChB, FRCSEd, MFSEM, PgDip is a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery based at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. He was educated at Rugby School and graduated from St Andrew’s University with a BSc in Medical Science. He later completed his medical training at Edinburgh University before undertaking specialist orthopaedic training at the Yorkshire Deanery. During this period he was elected President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA) and represented orthopaedic trainees on the British Orthopaedic Association Council, Joint Committee of Higher Surgical Training, Royal College of Surgeons Council and Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He also completed a postgraduate diploma course in Sports & Exercise Medicine at The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
He undertook further specialist training in knee surgery, shoulder and elbow surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Adidas Sports Medicine in Auckland, New Zealand, and at the Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Clinic of Nova Scotia, Halifax, Canada.
His NHS practice includes the provision of general orthopaedic trauma care at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff and an elective practice based at the newly opened Cardiff & Vale Orthopaedic Centre (CAVOC). His private practice is based at Spire Cardiff Hospital and St Joseph’s Hospital, Newport.
He is a lecturer and clinical tutor examining on the postgraduate diploma in sports and exercise medicine course at The University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) and is an Honorary Clinical Teacher at Cardiff University. He is a partner of Sports Orthopaedics UK.
Clinical interests
Mr Robertson's principle elective interests include sports medicine and the management of traumatic and degenerative disorders of the knee, elbow and shoulder. He aims to offer the latest techniques including arthroscopic or ‘keyhole’ surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow. In the shoulder his interests include minimally invasive treatment of shoulder instability, rotator cuff tears, impingement, injury to the acromioclavicular joint and early arthritis. In the knee he has an interest in knee ligament reconstruction (anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)), meniscal cartilage surgery including the latest repair and replacement techniques and the treatment of mild and severe arthritis using arthroscopic techniques. He also has an interest in the treatment of anterior knee pain and instability of the patella.
