Expert treatment of shoulder arthritis in Hampshire
Shoulder arthritis is a degenerative condition of the cartilage in the shoulder joint, causing stiffness, discomfort and pain in around 20% of the older population of the UK. Although less common in younger people than hip or knee arthritis, those with a history of trauma or overuse (from intense overhead activities such as tennis or bowling in cricket, for example) may be affected.
Mr Cole offers a complete diagnostic and treatment service for shoulder arthritis. Following an in depth discussion of symptoms and a physical examination, an x-ray and, in some cases CT scan, are taken to establish the nature of the damage to the shoulder. In less severe cases, a range of non-surgical treatments is available, including physiotherapy, painkillers and therapeutic injections such as cortisone and hyaluronan. Where surgery is indicated, Mr Cole can advise on the most appropriate treatment for each individual. Options range from keyhole treatments in cases of early arthritis, to shoulder replacement procedures, including resurfacing of the joint, replacement of the ball part of the joint only (hemiarthroplasty) and replacement of the ball and socket of the joint (arthroplasty, or total shoulder replacement).
Mr Andrew Cole is an accredited consultant for the UK's leading private healthcare providers and private hospitals, including Spire Healthcare
