Mr Tim Woolford trained in Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery in Oxford and Manchester. He undertook a Research Fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Department of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery with the award of a Doctorate.
He was appointed as a consultant ENT surgeon in 1999, initially working at The Royal Hallamshire Hospital and Sheffield Children's Hospital. In 2004 he returned to The University Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at The Manchester Royal Infirmary and Hope Hospital, Salford.
Mr Woolford treats patients with many different ear, nose and throat conditions, although most of his time is now dedicated to specialist nasal surgery. He manages a variety of nasal conditions and has a particular interest in plastic surgery of the nose. Between his NHS and private practice he performs over 70 rhinoplasties each year. Rhinoplasty and nasal septal surgery is performed for those who have cosmetic or nasal airway problems.
These problems may follow trauma or occur in patients who are referred to him with a complication of previous surgery. Information for patients and Mr Woolford's approach to rhinoplasty is outlined on his website.
A significant part of his time is dedicated to nasal reconstructive surgery for patients who have nasal skin cancer. This is complex surgery which often requires several stages. He also treats patients who have congenital or traumatic conditions of the pinna (external ear).
Mr Woolford is a Fellow of the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, a member of the Academic Committee of The British Conference in Otolaryngology and a member of the Education & Training Committee of the British Association of Otorhinolaryngology. He is also an Intercollegiate Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons.
Mr Woolford is a an Associate Editor of the Journal of Laryngology & Otology where he reviews articles and advises if they are suitable for publication. Mr Woolford’s interest in rhinology and nasal plastic surgery is reflected in invitations to lecture at meetings and teach on various courses. He is co-organiser of the Manchester/Liverpool Rhinology & Nasal Plastic Surgery Course and he has written numerous articles related to nasal surgery.
