An expert in endoscopic sinus surgery
Everyone has four pairs of sinuses, small air-filled
cavities situated behind the cheekbones and forehead that control the
temperature and water content of the air passing into the lungs. The
sinuses can become inflamed or infected, causing symptoms such as fever,
a blocked or runny nose, headaches, loss of smell and a painful face
(sinusitis). In most people sinusitis will clear up by itself over a
matter of weeks, however for some it is an unpleasant and persistent
Mr Saleh is able to investigate and treat sinusitis that
is severe or has proved resistant to other treatment methods with
Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS). A thin, fibre-optic tube (endoscope) is introduced into the nose providing diagnostic video images. Tiny instruments are then used to remove abnormal and obstructive tissue, opening up the sinus pathways. In most cases, FESS can be performed solely through
the nostrils, with no incisions or scars, usually as an outpatient
Mr Saleh also specialises in endoscopic surgery for blocked tear
ducts, benign nasal tumours and spontaneous leaks of cerebrospinal fluid
associated with holes in the protective lining of the brain.
