An expert rhinologist in London and Essex

Extensive trained in Europe and the USA, Mr Fayad is an experienced and innovative rhinologist, most recently pioneering the Breathe titanium nose implant for the treatment of breathing problems in patients with nasal valve collapse.  Actively involved in research, his interests include nasal problems during pregnancy, asthma, nasal allergic polyps and new treatments for snoring.  He is an expert on allergy and allergic rhinitis, and was responsible for setting up the multidisciplinary unit for patients suffering from a combination of nasal polyps, allergy and asthma at Basildon University Hospital, one of the first of its kind in the UK.

Conditions treated by Mr George Fayad

Mr Fayad offers expert management and treatment for all conditions affecting the nose, including:

  • Sinusitis
  • Sinus headaches
  • Rhinitis
  • Nasal polyps
  • Asthma
  • Nasal valve collapse
  • Snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Trauma

The Breathe-Implant for the treatment of breathing problems

Situated in the area corresponding to the crease on each side of the nose, the nasal valve is the narrowest part of the nasal airway.   On exertion, during exercise for example, the increased air pressure tends to cause the lateral nasal walls to collapse inwards, nearly closing off the airway, however in people with nasal wall collapse this valve closes off completely, producing the symptoms of a blocked nose and difficulty breathing.

The Breathe-Implant is a small 0.5mm thick triangular-shaped piece of titanium that is positioned between two layers of cartilage in the nose to hold the nasal valve area open.  First performed in the UK in 2009 by Mr Fayad, the procedure is associated with significant and quantifiable improvements in breathing.  Patients also report improvements to their sense of smell, a reduced incidence of headaches and a reduction in snoring.
