Dr Vimal Sivasanker is a consultant in general adult psychiatry, who offers treatment for a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and complex psychological problems such as bipolar affective disorder (manic depression) and psychosis.
About adult psychiatrist Vimal Sivasanker
Dr Sivasanker, MA, MBBS, MRCPsych, undertook his undergraduate training at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He went on to complete his training at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine, qualifying in 1999. After his house year, he went straight into psychiatric training on the East London training rotation, and worked in a variety of psychiatric subspecialities in one of the most demanding areas of the country. He subsequently undertook higher specialist psychiatric training in Cambridge and East Anglia. During this time, he worked extensively in inner city and rural areas across socially and ethnically diverse populations, and gained particular experience in his special interest of psychiatric intensive care.
Dr Sivasanker has worked as a consultant in general adult psychiatry since 2008 in one of the country’s leading mental health NHS Foundation Trusts. He has worked in a variety of roles, including psychiatric intensive care, crisis resolution and inpatients. He is currently working in an acute inpatient unit and is also the lead consultant for ECT.
Dr Sivasanker has experience in treating acute and severe mental illnesses, such as psychotic disorders and severe depression, as well as illnesses over a longer period of time, such as anxiety disorders, bipolar affective disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
