Mr. Manu K Sood, MS, MCh (Plast), FRCS (Plast), trained extensively in plastic surgery both in the UK and abroad before becoming a consultant in the NHS and developing a private practice in Essex and East London, supported by a Practice Manager, Clinical Nurse specialist and a secretariat.
Mr Sood is a co-founder of the prestigious Mentor Cosmetic Fellowship. This is one of two such posts in the UK for the most senior trainees in plastic surgery who wish to learn the art and craft of cosmetic surgery, before they become consultants in their own right and commence private practice.
He is actively involved in postgraduate teaching and is responsible for the training of the senior registrar in Hand Surgery attached to the Regional Plastic Surgery Unit.
He maintains his accreditation for Continuing Medical Education by attending national and international conferences, visiting centres with an international reputation, remaining up to date with published literature and participating in postgraduate education and audit. He has presented scientific papers at the national meetings for Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery Associations. He has extensive experience in the management of hand problems such as the arthritis of the small joints of the hand, Dupuytren’s contracture and nerve compression syndromes (carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome), which he treats along with an experienced Hand Therapist for optimal results.
He has a special interest in microsurgical reconstruction of major injuries of the hand, tendon injuries, nerve surgery, surgery for congenital anomalies of the hand and foot and surgical reconstruction of the upper extremity in patients with strokes and cerebral palsy.
He is part of a multidisciplinary team for the management of skin cancers, such as BCC, rodent ulcer, SCC (squamous cell carcinoma) and melanoma.
