Telephone follow-up service for pain management

Dr Gaspar’s telephone follow-up service has been set up to allow prompt feedback about any treatment strategies that he employs.

If Dr Gaspar prescribes a drug or changes the dosage, he rings his patients up to see what effects it's having. Dr Gaspar wants to know whether the patient is tolerating it well or whether they are experiencing any unpleasant side effects. It may be that the drug is not working at all in which case he will look for an alternative strategy. Dr Gaspar ensures that all the drugs he prescribes are properly monitored. It usually takes several phone calls over 4-6 weeks to safely establish someone on a particular drug.

Dr Gaspar makes a follow-up telephone consultation to all patients who have had a pain interventional procedure, usually at two weeks. He has a detailed discussion with the patient about what effect the intervention has had on the individual's pain condition and also discusses reducing the pain medications at that time.

Dr Gaspar uses these phone calls to educate patients as to what they can expect from their drugs and procedures and when and how they should seek further guidance and help.

He follows all consultations with a letter to the patient's GP and other related specialists, and sends a copy to the patient as well so that everyone is kept informed. Taking absolute responsibility is fundamental to Dr Gaspar's practice.

Dr Gaspar does not charge for his telephone follow up service.
