Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Specialist in sports injuries and joint replacement surgery.  Fellowship trained in arthroscopic, minimally invasive and computer guided surgery.

 
Paul Jairaj was educated by Rugby School and qualified in Medicine from the University of Birmingham. He completed his basic surgical training at St Mary's Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School at The Hammersmith Hospital attaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
 
He completed his Specialist Registrar training in trauma and orthopaedics on the Imperial College North West Thames Scheme, including periods at Charing Cross Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital, Royal Berkshire Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and St Mary's Hospital where he became Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics. 
 
He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in July 2003, entered on to the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council. In between his fellowships to the United States and France he spent a period as a Locum Consultant at Charing Cross and Ravenscourt Park Hospitals. He was then appointed as a Substantive Consultant at the Royal Bournemouth and Poole General Hospitals and spends his time split between London, Surrey and Dorset. He aims to provide the latest trusted treatments.

Specialist fellowships

During the first half of 2004 Paul undertook a Travelling Fellowship around the United States during which time he visited several leading American Centres in Sports Medicine and minimally invasive joint replacement surgery including:
  • Combined Harvard Orthopaedic Services, Boston (Dr Charlie Brown MD, Professor Jessie Jupiter MD)
  • University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh (Dr Freddie Fu MD and Dr Dana Mears MD)
  • Steadman Hawkins Clinic, Vail, Colorado (Dr Richard Steadman MD)
  • Stone Clinic, San Francisco (Dr Kevin Stone MD)
  • University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia (Professor Mark Miller MD)
  • The Ranawat Orthopaedic Centre, New York (Dr Chit Ranawat MD)
  • Hospital for Special Surgery, New York (Professor Tom Sculco MD)
 
During the second half of 2004 Paul was Clinical Fellow at the elite Centre de Chirurgie Orthopedique, Bordeaux, France. Paul worked with Dr Phillippe Colombet MD and Dr Michel Allard MD gaining specialist experience in:
  • Arthroscopic and Minimally Invasive Sports Medicine Surgery as well as routinely performing joint replacement surgery using computer guided navigation technology.
  • Working  bilingually in the French Healthcare system.
 
Paul has also undertaken other Specialist Visits to Budapest to vist Professor Laslo Hangody MD  the internationally renowned surgeon who developed the cartilage repair technique of Osteochondral Autologous Transplantation.
 
Paul also visited the University of Chicago to visit Dr Richard Burger MD as well as Mark Hartzband at the Hartzband Institute, Hackensack, New Jersey.
 

Treatments available

  • Arthroscopic surgery of knee, hip, and shoulder including meniscal/labral repair and cartilage repair
  • Arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using either a single or double bundle hamstring technique.
  • All aspects of mini invasive knee surgery utilising either single, double or total compartmental replacements with the option of computer guidance.
  • Minimally invasive Hip replacement surgery and also Hip resurfacing with the option of computer guidance.
  • Traumatic conditions such as fractures, acute ligament ruptures and sports injuries can be dealt with on an urgent basis.
