Mr Padman Phaltankar is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery and sports injury. He holds an NHS Consultant post at North Manchester General Hospital.
Mr Phaltankar MBBS, MS (Orth), D Orth, FRCS (Tr & Orth) qualified from the University of Bombay, India in 1992. He undertook postgraduate orthopaedic training in a leading teaching hospital in Bombay. He has also undergone training at St. George's Hospital, London as well as other hospitals in Surrey and West Sussex. He gained extensive training in all aspects of knee surgery while undertaking knee fellowships in Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
He has been working as a specialist knee surgeon in Manchester since 2005.He undertakes a large number of surgical procedures related to the knee in his NHS and private practice.
He undertakes total as well as partial knee replacements. A large part of his surgical practice involves arthroscopic (key hole) knee surgery including arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and cartilage surgery for torn knee cartilage. He also performs knee cartilage transplant surgery for cartilage damage as well as realignment procedures directed towards younger patients with knee pain. He offers surgery for recurrent dislocation of knee cap. He also performs cemented total hip replacements for arthritic hips and bunion surgery.
Mr Phaltankar has research interest that focus on various aspects of ACL reconstruction. He is currently undertaking a number of research projects related to ACL reconstruction.
