Prof Lennard Funk BSc. MSc. FRCS(Tr&Orth). FFSEM(UK) is a Consultant Shoulder & Upper Limb Surgeon at Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Trust and Professor at Salford University.

Prof Funk specialises in arthroscopic (keyhole) and minimally invasive surgery of the shoulder and elbow. Over 90% of his shoulder and elbow surgery uses advanced modern techniques. His special interests include shoulder dislocations, frozen shoulder, arthritis, stiff elbows and sports injuries of the shoulder. He routinely treats elite and professional athletes, with a particular interest in shoulder and elbow injuries in Rugby and contact sports,  Prof Funk has extensive experience in treating professional sports people.

In addition to his surgical qualifications, he is a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine UK and holds a BSc in Sports Physiology and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering. Prof Funk lectures nationally and internationally on Shoulder Surgery, Sports Injuries and Medical Informatics. He is published widely in medical journals and a member of many international and national professional organisations.

Prof Funk performs office shoulder ultrasound, thus providing immediate scans and outcome assessments to all patients at the first clinic appointment, offering a one-stop diagnostic service for shoulder injuries and diseases. He also trains other clinicians on shoulder ultrasound on regular courses and lectures internationally. 

Prof Funk is involved in developing and running Postgraduate Degrees for surgeons, therapists and sports clinicians in orthopaedics. Prof Funk believes strongly in offering complete multidisciplinary shoulder and upper limb treatment through close links with referring therapists and clinicians.

Clinical and research interests

Prof Funk specialises in complex shoulder problems, getting referrals from other surgeons and therapists from around the UK and abroad. His special interests and expertise include shoulder instability and dislocations, sports injuries of the shoulder and elbow and arthroscopic surgery.
