Mr James Bliss BSc, MBBS, FRCS(Eng), FRCS(Orthopaedics), a knee surgeon with particular interest in knee surgery and sports medicine, works in a large teaching hospital in Central London.
He qualified in London in 1990 and underwent basic surgical training in London, Stanmore and Canterbury. In 1995, he was appointed to St Mary's Hospital, Paddington as a higher surgical trainee in orthopaedics and trauma. The circuit involved training in Ascot, Harrow, Reading and Stanmore in addition to Central London.
In 2001, he spent a year in knee surgery training via the fellowship programme in the University of New South Wales, Sydney. In 2002, he worked as a locum consultant at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington before being appointed as a consultant knee surgeon at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust, in the same year.
Since 2002 his orthopaedic practice, in both the NHS and private practice, has specialised exclusively in knee surgery. He carries out well over 100 ligament reconstructions per year, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and multi-ligament reconstruction in both acute and chronic setting, using both autograft and allograft techniques. He performs knee joint replacements and has significant interest in osteotomy (realignment) procedures around the knee using state-of-the-art titanium plating and bone graft techniques.
