Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LapBand)
A common reversible procedure to restrict the amount of food
that you can eat. A special band is placed around the top part of your stomach
creating a small pouch. The band is inflated by salt water through a special
port under your skin. This provides an adjustable weight loss solution that regulates
the amount of food you can eat at any one time.
Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
A longer term obesity solution, the sleeve gastrectomy is
not reversible. In excess of 70 percent of the stomach is surgically removed,
creating a much reduced tube (or sleeve), which becomes the only reservoir for
what you eat.
Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass (Roux-en-Y)
The gold standard for long-term weight loss. This
irreversible procedure creatures a small pouch which restricts the amount of
food you can eat. It also bypasses the part of your bowel that absorbs fat. The
result: you eat less and you absorb less.
