Dr Oliver Charles Cockerell is a consultant neurologist who trained in London in general medicine and carried out his specialist neurological training at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
He is currently lead consultant and Associate Clinical Director for Medical Neurosciences at the regional neuroscience centre for London and the East of England at Barts and the Royal London NHS Trust.
Dr Cockerell is a senior staff member of Barts and Royal London Medical College and is active in teaching and research. Currently he holds the post of Senior Lecturer.

Epilepsy
Dr Cockerell runs the epilepsy service at Barts and the Royal London Hospital NHS Trust. There is a full epilepsy programme, including video telemetry, epilepsy surgery work-up, psychometry, neuroradiology and epilepsy nurse services. There are clinics for First Seizure, General Epilepsy, Adolescent and women's clinics.
Headache
Specific interest in Migraine, tension headache, Chronic Daily Headache, Cluster Headache, and Chronic Paroxysmal Hemicrania Cephalgia. Full range of treatments and investigation on offer.
Stroke
Active interest in all forms of cerebrovascular disease and on call for the Wellington Hospital acute stroke unit.
Post head injury and whiplash syndrome

Dr Cockerell is a key figure in organising the general neurology services at Barts and the Royal London Hospitals and Princess Alexandra Hospitals and offers a full in and out-patient private patient service.

Research and publications
Dr Cockerell runs the epilepsy section of the Drug Trials Unit at Barts and The London Hospital NHS Trust. This is a busy Trial Unit. In the last five years Dr Cockerell has run five trials with Pregabalin, Lucosamide and Ritagabine.

Contact information and patient referral
Dr Cockerell is happy to see private patients at any of the hospitals listed above and can usually arrange an appointment for the same day in an emergency. Dr Cockerell offers an emergency private in-patient service at the Wellington Hospital and the London Clinic where full emergency neuro facilities are available 24 hours per day.
All patients from the UK should be referred by their General Practitioner or another medical specialist and Dr Cockerell will ensure timely dispatch of reports to the referring doctor.
Medico-legal appointments should be made through the Medico-legal Secretary, Sonia Lewis, who can be contacted on 020 8859 3144.
Dr Cockerell's private secretary, Miss Alison Simmons, can be contacted between 0930 and 1530, Monday to Friday.
