Mr Winston Kim MBChB MSc FRCS(Tr & Orth) is Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal University Hospital, Manchester, Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Salford. He graduated MB ChB from the University of Aberdeen in 1996, completed his Higher Surgical Training in Manchester, then underwent sub-specialist training in Lower Limb Arthroplasty in Vancouver with an Ethicon Foundation Travelling Fellowship Award. He was recipient of the British Orthopaedic Foundation Travelling Fellowship visiting the world renowned Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, and the Hospital of Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, USA. In 2006, he was awarded the PLUS Award, visiting the Radboud University Medical Centre in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.
Research and publications
Mr Kim has a strong research background and has authored a large number of peer review publications, review articles and book chapters. He has original research articles published in major peer reviewed journals including The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He has lectured widely in national and international meetings, presenting research findings to national and international meetings such as the British Hip Society, British Orthopaedic Research Society, European Orthopaedic Research Society, British Trauma Society and the British Orthopaedic Association.

Mr Kim is Fellowship trained in contemporary operative and non-operative techniques and offers a comprehensive assessment of acute and chronic conditions of the knee and hip, tailoring treatment according to the specific requirements of patients. His routine clinical practice is focused on Sports Medicine (knee arthroscopic/keyhole procedures, anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction), keyhole or arthroscopic surgery of the hip for sporting injuries or early arthritis. He performs arthroplasty (total hip and knee replacements, hip resurfacing arthroplasty, unicompartmental knee replacements, patellofemoral replacement, complex primaries and revision hip and knee replacements). He performs on average over 200 primary and revision (re-do) hip and knee replacements a year and over 200 keyhole (arthroscopic) procedures of the knee and hip.
He has strong research links with the Universities of Manchester and Salford, with collaborative efforts allowing assessment and long term follow up of patients with early knee and hip osteoarthritis and sporting injuries, allowing better understanding of the natural history of these conditions and and the effects of surgical intervention in these patients.
