Specialist in knee surgery and sports injuries; knee arthroscopy, meniscal repair and replacement, ligament reconstruction, knee replacements and revision surgery.  

 

Mr McDermott MB BS, MS FRCS(Orth), FFSEM(UK), practises at the London Knee Clinic, situated at the London Bridge Hospital, in South East London. He is also Honorary Professor Associate, Brunel University School of Sport & Education.

 

Mr McDermott undertook his medical training at St Bartholomew’s Medical School and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the North West Thames Deanery. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ealing Hospital, but has now left the NHS and works exclusively as a private specialist in the independent sector.

Research interests

Mr McDermott is an Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University in the School of Sport and Education. In 2003 he was awarded the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) President’s Medal for his research into Meniscal Repair. In 2004 Mr McDermott was awarded a Master of Surgery Higher Degree for his work on ‘The Biomechanics of Meniscal Transplantation’.

Mr McDermott has given numerous presentations at both national and international levels and has published extensively, particularly in the field of meniscal surgery of the knee. Some of his key papers include:

You should be prepared to spend an hour or more at the Clinic during which time your surgeon will ask you some focused questions and examine your knee thoroughly as well as discussing all relevant scans and X-rays and other forms of investigation, and clarify your questions regarding diagnosis and potential recommended treatments.
