Specialist in knee and hip surgery especially hip and knee arthroscopy, knee replacement, hip replacement and resurfacing arthroplasty, complex reconstructive surgery, revision hip and knee surgery, sports injuries and the treatment of orthopaedic oncology and bone and soft tissue tumours.
Mr Duncan Whitwell is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, Oxford. He also undertakes NHS clinics in Bristol, Abingdon and Newbury. He graduated from Nottingham University and trained in Bristol, Oxford and Brisbane, Australia before taking up his Consultant appointment in Oxford. He specialises in the surgical treatment of hip and knee problems including revision surgery.
Mr Whitwell is also a lead consultant in the Oxford Bone and Soft Tissue Service where he specialises in treatment and reconstruction for patients with bone and soft tissue cancer.
Mr Whitwell’s NHS base is the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre NHS Trust, an internationally acclaimed centre for diagnosis and treatment of bone, joint and muscle conditions.
He regularly lectures on hip and knee surgery at international meetings and is a European surgical demonstrator on the hip resurfacing arthroplasty.
Mr Whitwell’s research interests are in computer navigated hip and knee arthroplasty, the young patient with hip disease and the treatment of bone and soft tissue sarcomas and of metastatic bone disease. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Oxford and is involved in both local undergraduate and national postgraduate educational programmes.
