Mr Chris Rees is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon practising at Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. He specialises in knee and hip reconstruction including sporting injuries of the knee.
Mr Chris Rees, BSc(Hons) MBBS FRCS FRCS(Tr & Orth), was educated at St Albans School and qualified from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London in 1994. Prior to this, he undertook an intercalated BSc(Hons) degree in ‘Biological and Clinical Science’ in 1992 at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London.
After House Officer positions at the Royal Free and Hemel Hempstead Hospitals, Mr Rees obtained full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) in 1995. As a Senior House Officer, Mr Rees worked at the Hammersmith Hospital, the Royal Brompton Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London as part of his basic surgical training.
In 1998, Mr Rees passed his FRCS examinations before commencing his Specialist Registrar training in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery at the internationally renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore, Middlesex.
In 2004, Mr Rees was awarded a highly competitive ‘Knee Fellowship’ by BASK in Derby and Nottingham. It was during this year that Mr Rees consolidated his experience and expertise in reconstructive knee surgery including arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, revision knee replacement and computer-assisted knee surgery. At the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, one of the busiest trauma centres in the UK, Mr Rees was responsible for treating a large number of patients with complex and challenging musculoskeletal injury.
In 2005, Mr Rees passed the FRCS(Tr & Orth) examination, was awarded his ‘Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training’ in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery and was granted Specialist Recognition by the GMC. In 2006, Mr Rees was appointed Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, Essex.
Mr Rees also has practising privileges at the Ramsay Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford.
Mr Rees is one of the RCS-recognised Educational Supervisors at Broomfield Hospital and is heavily involved in training junior surgeons. He has several published papers to his name and is involved in collaborative work with the Mechanical Engineering Research Group at Anglia Ruskin University. He also teaches on ‘Surgical Skills’ courses run by the Royal College of Surgeons and lectures on knee surgery courses at RNOH, Stanmore.
