Total knee replacement
This involves replacing a damaged, worn or diseased knee
with an artificial joint. Mr Shair uses the least invasive surgical
techniques, where possible. Waiting times for operations are short and
The Orthopaedics and Spine Specialist Hospital has had no cases of MRSA
since opening in 2005
Cartilage grafting
Osteoarthritis is caused by the cartilage in the knee
joint wearing away allowing the bone surfaces to grind together,
resulting in damage and severe pain. This is particularly problematic
in younger people, as a second knee replacement operation would probably
be necessary in time. Ahmed Shair is at the forefront of a technique
to replace the cartilage damage in early arthritis with a bone graft
from the patient's hip. He is a published author on this subject and
his work has been recognised.
Arthroscopic surgery for sports injuries to the knee
Using arthroscopic (key hole) surgery, Mr Shair is able
to repair all sports injuries affecting the ligaments and cartilage in
the knee, including torn anterior cruciate ligaments and meniscus
tears. This method of surgery is more beneficial for the patient as it
involves less postoperative pain, a shorter stay in hospital and a
shorter recovery time.
