Hip arthroscopy for early onset arthritis
Arthritis sometimes develops in people under the age of
60 as a result of a previous injury to the cartilage lining the hip
joint (articular cartilage) or to the specialised piece of cartilage
that runs along the rim of the socket (labrum). It has also recently
become apparent that developmental anatomical anomalies involving the
shape and alignment of the ball and socket components of the hip joint can
predispose certain individuals to develop arthritis early, a condition
known as hip impingement.
Mr Kim is highly trained and skilled in hip arthroscopy, a relatively new minimally invasive surgical technique to diagnose and treat
early arthritic problems in the hip. Using a fibre-optic probe and
specially designed instruments introduced through small incisions, he is able to assess the structures of the hip joint and remove or
