Gavin Robertson is a Consultant General Surgeon practising at Leicester Royal Infirmary with a specialist interest in liver, pancreatic, biliary and laparoscopic surgery. He was appointed to the position in January 1999.
Gavin Robertson qualified in 1984 from Leicester Medical School. His extensive surgical training included 8 years as a lecturer in Leicester, where he began training in laparoscopic surgery when it began in the UK in 1993. He spent additional periods on specialist units in Birmingham, Belgium and Australia.
As a consultant surgeon he now specialises in laparoscopic surgery (particularly gallbladder and hernia surgery) and major cancer resections of the liver, pancreas and bile duct systems (HPB). He also undertakes complex endoscopic procedures including ERCPs (bile duct interventions).

Key publications
Gavin Robertson has written 51 original papers in peer reviewed journals on pancreatic islet transplantation, the treatment of inoperable liver tumours and laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia surgery.
In addition, a variety of book chapters and review articles on these subjects including co-authoring the chapter on abdominal wall and groin hernias in the current 5th edition of Kirk’s General Surgical Operations published in 2006.
He has presented extensively at national and international meetings.
