Mr Jafaru Abu, Private Gynaecologist & Oncologist in Nottingham, specialises in the surgical management of gynaecological cancers, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery and colposcopy.
Jafaru Abu is a consultant gynaecologist and oncologist whose NHS practice is based at the Nottingham City Hospital Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals. His practice as a private gynaecologist in Nottingham is based at The Park Hospital Nottingham and Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital. He is a subspecialty trained gynaecological oncologist and has developed a major interest in minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. He was instrumental in the introduction of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (keyhole hysterectomy) in the management of endometrial cancer (cancer of the womb) at the Nottingham University Hospitals and he is highly trained in performing complex gynaecological key-hole operations even in the morbidly obese women where he has acquired a reputation.
Mr Abu trained at Leicester University Hospitals where he also completed subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology. Because of his interest in minimally invasive surgery, he consolidated his laparoscopic training and skills at the Queensland Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Royal Brisbane Hospital for Women, Queensland, Australia.
Single Incision Laparoscopic surgery (SILS), is a new "scarless" procedure for some gynaecology conditions. Mr Abu is one of the first Gynaecologists in the UK to perform this procedure and was interviewed in the Daily Mail for this revolutionary new treatment which has significant patient benefits - you can read Mr Abu's interview here.

The Nottingham Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Masterclass
Mr Abu is also committed to the Training of other consultants in advanced laparoscopic surgery in gynaecology because of his belief of the benefits of key-hole surgery especially in women. To this end, he established a bi-annual Masterclass Course in 2007 where other consultants are taught the skills of total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH). The course has become popular nationally and internationally and is usually fully subscribed with a long waiting list. He also performs visitations to other hospitals where he acts as a mentor to consultant colleagues on advanced keyhole surgery in gynaecology especially total laparoscopic hysterectomy.
