David M Lloyd has pioneered many operations and developed a
microwave machine to treat liver cancer. This machine is now being used in many
of the world’s top cancer hospitals in Europe, America and Australia. He
coordinated an international study on the efficacy of microwave liver ablation
performed at these centres. He has an extensive laparoscopic practice and has
one of the largest series of laparoscopic gallbladder operations (over 3000),
laparoscopic hernia operations (over 7000), and spleen and adrenal procedures.
Over the last 10 years he has developed a new and innovative
procedure for the treatment of sportsman’s groin known as the Lloyd Release
Procedure (see www.lloydrelease.com)
which has brought him international acclaim. Groin pain often occurs in
athletes and is also known as Gilmore’s groin. The Lloyd Release Procedure is
performed by keyhole surgery and reduces the pain in the groin caused by tension
of the ligaments whilst also strengthening the groin using a mesh. He is
frequently on the faculty of the American, European and British Hernia
David Lloyd has
published extensively on a variety of surgical disorders with more than 100
peer-review publications and 100 published abstracts on laparoscopic surgery
and liver surgery. He has also written more than 10 book chapters on liver surgery, microwave liver ablation and
the treatment of groin pain. His main research interests include microwave heat
ablation of liver cancer, laparoscopic surgery and the treatment of groin pain.
