Ashok Bohra is a Consultant Surgeon within the NHS, also providing surgical consultation and private health care in private hospitals in Birmingham and the West Midlands, specialising in laparoscopic surgery for diseases of the gall bladder (gall stones), hernia, reflux, bariatric (obesity) surgery, cancer of the stomach, investigation and treatment for abdominal (stomach) pain, indigestion, piles, fissure and bumps. He is also an expert witness for medico legal cases. He is a Senior Clinical lecturer in the University of Birmingham as well as a Senior Clinical Examiner.
During the course of his training Mr Bohra had the privilege of working in numerous district general hospitals across England and Northern Ireland. He has also acquired advanced sub specialty (upper GI / laparoscopic) training from tertiary centres in Belfast, Liverpool, and Leeds. He attained bariatric surgical training in the UK and then through a fellowship in Belgium.
Mr Bohra was appointed as a full time substantive consultant in general, laparoscopic, and upper GI surgery at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan in 2005. In early 2009 he moved to the Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, West Midlands as a substantive consultant general, laparoscopic and upper GI surgeon. During a period of surgical training and experience spanning over two decades, Mr Bohra has shown active interest in teaching, auditing, and research and has had regular satisfactory appraisals as a consultant as per the DOH guidelines. He has published in various journals and presented at both national and international forums. He is the surgical lead for the Hospital Guidelines Committee and a national PEER reviewer for Upper GI cancer services.
With an extensive surgical training and practise and thousands of successful operations under his belt, Mr Bohra has the experience of a wide range of general surgical procedures with special interests in: gastrointestinal surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery for all hernia, gall stones, reflux problems, cancers of the stomach and oesophagus, upper and lower GI endoscopy, bariatric (obesity) surgery, lumps and bumps, and other benign general surgical conditions. He has an active interest in medico legal case reporting and works as an expert witness. He is very familiar with The Civil Procedures Rule for Expert Witnesses in particular CPR Part 35 and PD 35, Practice Direction for Pre-Action Conduct and Protocol for the Instruction of experts.
