Andrew Jenkinson, consultant gastrointestinal surgeon

A consultant gastro-intestinal surgeon in London with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery and expertise in obesity surgery.

 

Mr Andrew Jenkinson is a consultant gastro-intestinal surgeon with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic, or keyhole, surgery. He is the clinical lead at the Centre for Laparoscopic Surgery, Homerton University Hospital, East London and Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal London Hospital.

 

Mr Jenkinson has had extensive training in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical techniques. He has performed over 1000 procedures to date. He currently carries out approximately 100 laparoscopic hernia operations and a similar number of gallbladder procedures per year. His training in bariatric, or obesity, surgery conforms to criteria required by the British Obesity Surgery Society. He provides the full range of weight loss surgery procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch.

 

In 1999 Mr Jenkinson completed a Masters thesis on the effectiveness of keyhole surgery in the treatment of acid reflux, which causes heartburn. He has published extensively in the scientific literature and has presented at national and international meetings.
