Ankle arthroscopy in Manchester
Ankle twists and sprains are the most common injuries to the ankle. In many cases the swelling and pain will reduce, and normal function will be restored, with conservative treatment. However, in cases where problems such as clicking in the joint or frequently giving way persist, Professor Jari is able to offer a range of investigations, including ankle arthroscopy. Using a tiny fibre-optic camera introduced into the ankle joint through a small incision, he is able to view the internal structures such as cartilage and ligaments and make a definitive diagnosis. Some therapeutic procedures can also be undertaken arthroscopically, including removal of loose pieces of cartilage or bone spurs and repairs to torn cartilage, using special instruments inserted through further small incisions.
