About London Orthopaedic Surgeon Bruno Gerber
Bruno Gerber is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in biologic surgical treatments of musculo-skeletal conditions of the lower limb.
Bruno Gerber undertook his comprehensive orthopaedic surgical specialist training, including a full programme at a linked Foot & Ankle Unit, at the Orthopaedic Department of the Basel University Teaching Hospitals in Switzerland, where he was made responsible for the elective arthroscopic surgery service.
He completed a fellowship at the Arthritic & Orthopaedic Hospital in Toronto / Canada before taking over the post of surgeon in chief of the orthopaedic department in the City General Hospital of Neuchatel / Switzerland.
Since 2002 he has been a Senior Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the University Hospital Lewisham in London where he has set up a reference centre for computer navigated orthopaedic surgery, of which he is a longstanding expert and developer.
He preserves the patients’ own joints and enhances the body’s repair capacities using either biomedical engineering or laser, depending on which is the most appropriate technique.
If the pathology is too advanced and needs joint replacement or fusion he uses the latest surgical procedures and technology, such as computer-assisted navigation to aid in the treatment of sports injuries and degenerative or rheumatoid conditions.
He has conducted various basic and clinical research projects and has been teaching students and surgeons in training since his activity at the Basel University Teaching Hospitals. Bruno has lectured at many local and international meetings and is the author of numerous publications.
Clinical and research interests
Bruno is currently working on the development of further computer navigated surgery applications and he is conducting ongoing research about biological repairs of cartilage and ligaments. He is medical advisor of a European research/development project regarding orthopaedic laser treatment.
