Ms Anastasia Rachmanidou is a consultant ENT Surgeon at the University Hospital Lewisham, London. She is an otolaryngologist who specialises in rhinology (the study of the nose, including the sinuses), paediatric ENT, snoring treatment, palatal surgery and voice disorders.

 

Anastasia Rachmanidou studied medicine, in Thessaloniki Greece. Following that she undertook general surgical training, and went on to specialise in Ear, Nose and Throat disorders. She then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where she completed higher surgical training in ENT and head and neck surgery.

 

In 1999, she completed her studies for the Diploma in Forensic Medicine from the University of Edinburgh. She was a Research Registrar in Rhinology with the academic department of Respiratory Medicine, St Bartholomew's Hospital, London.

 

Anastasia Rachmanidou became a Consultant ENT Surgeon in London at The University Hospital Lewisham, London, in 2000.

  

Anastasia Rachmanidou is a lead mentor for coblation (radio-frequency) dissection in the UK. Her audit and research projects focus on the use of coblation for adeno-tonsillectomy and nasal turbinate reduction as well as palatal surgery. She has completed studies on the diagnosis of obstruction level for simple snoring and / or Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).

 

She has acquired qualifications in Management and Teaching and has a great interest in Medical Education.

ENT procedures performed

Coblation is a radio-frequency dissection method that cuts and seals the wound at the same time. It also means that there is less risk of infection with vCJD.

 

  • Coblation Adenoidectomy procedure is carried out to cure adenoid hypertrophy, which is a common finding in children, mainly below the age of 10 years. The adenoid pad is reduced with controlled dissection using the Coblation wand. Read more....

  • Septoplasty is an operation is usually done under general anaesthetic for correction of a deviated (bent) cartilage that divides the nose into two nostrils. The aim is to remove the bent cartilage and put / stitch (suture) everything in the mid-line, so that the airway improves (opens). Read more....

 

  • Snoring and OSA is when there is a narrowing / blockage through mainly the nasal passages. OSA is episodes of totally obstructed breathing. Treatments for OSA in children can be an adenoidectomy and tonsillectomy or tonsillotomy. Treatment for adults is usually significant weight loss / excercise or a CPAP which provides oxygen via a nasal / face mask during sleep. Read more....
