Dr Stephanie Munn is a Consultant Dermatologist with a busy NHS general dermatology practice specialising in various skin disorders including acne, hirsutism and polycystic ovarian syndrome, mole checks, skin cancer and surgery (melanoma and non melanoma), and eczema in children.
Dr Stephanie Munn, BSc, MBBS, FRCP, was appointed as a Consultant Dermatologist to Bromley Hospital Trust in 1999. She set up a once weekly private clinic within her NHS base in 2000 in order to be able to offer a ’see and treat’ service when possible and to be able to make use of the NHS facilities including specialist nursing, phototherapy and patch testing. She is now extending her private practice to BUPA
centre West End and is helping them develop their dermatology services. She was clinical lead for dermatology for South London Healthcare Trust from March 2010-13.
Dr Munn's training and qualifications in dermatology and the treatment of skin disorders
Dr Munn trained at King's College Medical School, and took an intercalated BSC and qualified in 1988. Her further general training was at the Royal Free London and her dermatology training commenced at Ealing and Hammersmith Hospitals where she developed her special interest in acne under Professor A Chu. She then spent 2 years in research on Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, setting up a clinic for adults with this rare condition, before returning to King's College to complete her dermatology training as a Senior Registrar. During her training she presented and published many papers and case reports as well as contributing to book chapters. She was appointed as consultant in 1999 running the skin cancer service and general clinics. She became Skin Tumour Working Group lead for the South East London Cancer Network 2005-7 and clinical director for ambulatory services in 2008. With the merger of three trusts to form the South London Healthcare Trust she was appointed clinical lead for dermatology across the Trust in March 2010. Whilst she enjoys management roles, finding them challenging and rewarding, clinical work remains her passion.
Dr Munn has a NHS general dermatology practice but also holds a paediatric dermatology clinic, and a pigmented lesions clinic for suspected melanoma. She has set up a dedicated clinic for difficult acne and polycystic ovarian syndrome once monthly and has a regular weekly surgical list. She participates in research both as part of multicentre trials and locally based studies. She is actively involved in clinical governance and regularly participates in clinical audit. She has an interest in dermatology in the developing world and spent a week as a volunteer in Ethiopia in 2008, and led a group of 40 dermatologists on a multicentre
educational visit to Ethiopia in 2013.
Dr Munn became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians London in 2003.
