Mr Jonathan Wilson, a highly trained London-based laparoscopic Colorectal Surgeon and General Surgeon provides minimally invasive colorectal surgery to NHS patients at the Whittington Hospital, North London, and also privately at The London Clinic. The majority of Mr Wilson’s surgical work involves operating on the large bowel, treating conditions such as Diverticular disease, Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and Bowel cancer. He also manages the full range of emergencies that require general or bowel surgery, including acute appendicitis, diverticulitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis and gastrointestinal bleeding. Qualifications and colorectal expertise
Mr Wilson, MBChB PhD FRCS qualified in medicine from Leeds University School of Medicine in 1996 and gained experience of general medicine and different branches of surgery in hospitals in Leeds, including St James’ Hospital, where he was Senior House Officer in General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Plastic Surgery. In 2001, he was awarded an MRC Clinical Research Fellowship to study the role of macrophage migration inhibitory factor for which he was awarded a PhD by the University of Leeds.
Mr Wilson moved to London, spending the next four years gaining further surgical experience at hospitals in and around the capital. He first specialised in colorectal surgery and general surgery in 2007 and in 2009 was fortunate enough to work as a Colorectal Fellow at University College London Hospital, a busy tertiary referral colorectal unit with an international reputation.
He won a prestigious appointment as Resident Surgical Officer at St Mark’s Hospital, Harrow, a world-famous tertiary referral centre specialising in colorectal disease. Here he specialised in complex colorectal surgery, including specialised laparoscopic colorectal techniques. In 2010 Mr Wilson won an ACPGBI Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship to further extend his skills in minimally invasive colorectal and general surgery.
