Heart specialist with expertise in stress echocardiography, tissue Doppler imaging, three dimensional echocardiography and cardiovascular risk assessment in end stage renal disease.
Dr Rajan Sharma MBBS BSc (Hon) MRCP, Consultant Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Echocardiography at Ealing Hospital NHS Trust, obtained his cardiology and echocardiography training at St Georges Hospital, The Heart Hospital and Wessex Cardiothoracic Unit at Southampton University Hospital .
His main area of interest is echocardiography. Echocardiography allows a doctor to visualise the structures of the heart, the heart walls, and the velocity of blood flow at certain points in the heart. (See Echocardiogram - Patient Advice).
He is also expert in cardiovascular risk assessment in end stage renal disease particularly the interaction between cardiology and renal disease. His approach has been developed from his MD thesis entitled: ‘Assessing cardiac risk in end stage renal disease’. He has continued his research in this field and is developing guidelines on how cardiac risk in renal transplant candidates is evaluated.
He has published many peer review articles in all aspects of quantitative echocardiography especially stress echocardiography, tissue Doppler imaging and three dimensional echocardiography.
