Mr Joseph Mills is Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in the prevention, assessment and treatment of coronary heart disease and risk assessment for heart disease.
Mr Joseph Mills received first-class training both as an undergraduate and postgraduate at Cambridge University, and research training from the British Heart Foundation as a research fellow from 1999 to 2001, under the guidance of Professor Peter Grant at the University of Leeds.
He completed his cardiology training in Cambridge and East Anglia (predominantly at Papworth Hospital) and then spent 6 months in Bergen (Norway) working as a senior fellow in interventional cardiology.
His final period of training took place at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester before he was appointed to the post of cardiology consultant at The Cardiothoracic Centre, Liverpool in October 2007.
He continues both clinical and non-clinical research in cardiology and has recently been awarded a Cambridge University prize for his Doctorate of Medicine thesis.
Clinical interests
Cardio-metabolic risk stratification (risk of developing coronary heart disease and / or diabetes mellitus) and risk factor modulation, coronary heart disease, heart failure, metabolic syndrome.
Research interests
The cardio-metabolic syndrome, intra-vascular ultrasound, novel risk factors for coronary heart disease.
