Cardiologists in the UK

Cardiology is the branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the heart and blood vessels which is commonly divided into congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology. Doctors who specialise in treating heart disorders are called cardiologists.

Cardiologists do not perform cardiac surgery and should not be confused with cardiac surgeons who performs operative procedures on the heart and blood vessels.

The professional body in the UK which is responsible for training and regulating medical practitioners who specialise in cardiology is the Royal College of Physicians.  The organisation focused on education, setting of clinical standards and research into heart and circulatory diseases within the United Kingdom is the British Cardiovascular Society.
