Mr Anselm Agwunobi commenced postgraduate surgical training in the UK in 1991. He trained as a general surgeon in the Manchester region and is now a fully qualified and accredited general surgeon with interests in gastrointestinal surgery, obesity surgery and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

 

A period of metabolic research at Hope Hospital Salford led to the award of Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Manchester in 2001.

 

Mr Agwunobi, a Consultant General and Upper GI Surgeon, was the Lead Upper GI Surgeon for Stockport  NHS Foundation Trust for seven years where he led the development of complex minimally invasive surgery techniques for removal of gullet cancer (the first in the North West) with his colleagues. Over 90% of Mr Agwunobi's surgical practice consists of modern minimally invasive surgery techniques (laparoscopic or keyhole surgery) to treat a variety of conditions including obesity with good clinical outcomes.
