Mr Vik Sharma is the clinical director at the London Ophthalmology Centre, specialising in cataract surgery, and glaucoma diagnosis and treatments, and eyelid procedures. He holds a substantive NHS consultant post with the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust, London, where he is the clinical lead for glaucoma and is developing a new modern service for patients in North London. He is a (Gold seal) Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and a fully accredited consultant on the UK General Medical Council Specialist Register, No:4307574. Private patients are consulted at LondonOC and the Queen Anne Medical Centre, London. Mr. V Sharma qualified in 1996 from St.Bartholomew’s & The Royal London Hospitals Medical College, with a distinction in anatomy and therapeutics. He also completed a BSc in Immunology at UCL, London. At one time Mr Sharma was the youngest Specialist Registrar in Ophthalmology appointed at a London teaching hospital. He underwent most of his postgraduate specialist training in many of London’s teaching hospitals, and has held the position of Glaucoma Specialist at King’s College and St.Thomas’ Hospitals.
Clinical interests
Mr Sharma is an experienced glaucoma and cataract surgeon, using topical anaesthesia and phaco-chop as part of his technique. Mr Sharma has also introduced the use of bimanual phaco with sub 2mm Micro-incision for cataract surgery. This technique reduces trauma to the eye which leads to faster healing and decreased post treatment complications. As well as completing a Glaucoma fellowship in London, he has also undergone further training in oculo-plastics at the Premier Facial Plastic Centre in Sarasota, Florida.

• Glaucoma (including new laser techniques/ micro-surgical implants) • Cataract • Eyelid surgery • Retinal and Nerve Analysis treatments (including new intravitreals) He has written ophthalmology chapters in medical texts, and many articles in peer reviewed journals. He remains an active member of the medical research field, presenting internationally and locally, discussing research findings and new techniques/treatments. He is also responsible for the local lectures course in central London for Doctors, Nurses and Opticians. Mr. Sharma also sits on the Glaucoma Advisory Board for pharmaceutical institutions, and is a Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology for the University of London.
