Experience

Mr Banim is part of the orthopaedic team in the Countess of Chester Hospital that provides 24 hour emergency trauma cover in the Chester area. He runs a weekly trauma clinic and operating list, caring for both routine and complex fractures as well as other injuries. In common with his elective practice, Mr Banim deals with complex lower limb trauma, but will also see most common fractures, and operate on them if necessary. So if you break a bone, and go to the Countess of Chester Hospital fracture clinic on Thursday, you are likely to see Mr Banim there most weeks.

Mr Banim regularly attends meetings and courses in orthopaedics and trauma to make sure he is always up-to-date with the latest developments. He uses evidence gained from these meetings and courses, along with the current literature, to guide his professional decision making and always works in close conjunction with allied health professionals and physiotherapists to provide a cohesive multidisciplinary approach. This ensures that he provides the best treatment for all his patients.

Knee replacement

Mr Banim is highly experienced in all forms of knee replacement surgery, including total knee replacement, partial knee replacement and revision knee replacement, and can advise on which technique and type of implant would be most suitable in each individual case. He also offers the latest personalised knee implant made by ConforMIS. Created specifically to fit the unique anatomy of each individual patient, this implant requires less surgical time to fit than a conventional implant, minimises the amount of bone that needs to be cut away and results in a natural anatomic feel and alignment. The precise fit of personalised implants also increases their longevity.

Hip arthroscopy

Mr Banim was the first surgeon in Chester to perform hip arthroscopy, a form of keyhole surgery. The procedure involves inserting a fibre-optic probe called an arthroscope into the hip joint to view and assess the internal structures. Damage to the articular cartilage, labrum and soft tissues can be repaired using specially designed miniature instruments attached to an arthroscope. A number of other treatments can also be performed arthroscopically including removal of loose fragments of cartilage or bone from the joint, removal of overgrown or excess bone and reshaping of the ball and socket components of the hip.
