This was followed by a fellowship at the Necker Hospital in Paris and then at the Montefiore Hospital in New York, USA.

On returning from the New York I worked as a paediatric neurosurgical fellow at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford.

I then took up post as a Consultant in Adult and Paediatric Neurosurgery at King's College Hospital and the Evelina Children’ Hospital, St Thomas Hospital.

Along with a spina bifida interest, I have a large cerebral palsy practice. I have been involved with the Intra-thecal Baclofen pump insertion programme since its infancy and offer this service to both children and adults.
Research interests
I have published and presented at national and international level on numerous topics including hydrocephalus, cerebral abscess, consent, trigeminal neuralgia, acoustic neuromas, sub-arachnoid haemorrhage, spinal disease, cerebral palsy and intra thecal baclofen, antenatal counselling in neurosurgery and brain tumours.

I have also been involved with the BBC City Hospital programme, on which seven episodes were filmed involving my patients and surgery. We are continuing to film further programmes.

I have also had numerous articles in the local and national press (South London Press, Daily Mirror and Daily Mail). I am currently filming for the BBC evening documentary “Survival” to be aired in March 2007.

I am involved with various patient support organisations including the Association for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (ASBAH). I have recently written the foreword to their “Benny the Bear” book for children with hydrocephalus.
