Mr Ajay Sinha is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon practising at Chelmsford Medical Centre and Springfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex. He specialises in phaco cataract surgery including multifocal & accomadative implants, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, lacrimal surgery, paediatrics and oculoplastics.

 

Ajay Sinha is a General Ophthalmologist with special interest in Medical Retina and Paediatric Ophthalmology. He sees patients with all kinds of eye problems, acute and chronic, including cataract, glaucoma and squint. The bulk of his surgical work is cataract surgery and he operates on children for conditions such as squint, blocked tear ducts and eyelid problems, and undertakes various eyelid procedures in adults. He performs active management for retinal conditions like wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, vascular blocks with both lasers and intra-vitreal injections of Lucentis and Ozurdex.

Mr Ajay Sinha, MBBS(Hons), MD, MNAMS, MRCOphth, FRCOphth, trained as an ophthalmologist with special interest in retina at India’s premier Eye Institute, Dr RP Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, New Delhi from 1976 to 1981. He worked in India until 1987 when he moved to UK for further training and to undertake fellowship exams before returning to private practice in New Delhi from 1991 to 1995. In 1996 Mr Sinha came back to the UK as a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

His main clinical interests are:

 

• Cataract surgery – day stay cataract surgery with phaco cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation using the IOL master to get accurate information regarding IOL power. Mr Sinha uses the full range of IOLs: monofocal, multifocal, toric, multifocal toric, and accommodating IOLs. He performs yag laser capsulotomy for patients whenever needed.
• Retina – Mr Sinha sees and manages patients with all kinds of retinal problems – dry and wet macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, arterial occlusion, venous occlusions, fluorescein angiography and ocular coherence tomography (OCT). He uses intra-vitreal injections of Lucentis, Ozurdex and Avastin were indicated.
• Glaucoma – treats patients with all types of glaucoma and is involved in the diagnosis and management of ocular hypertension, glaucoma suspect, open angle glaucoma and narrow angle glaucoma. Yag laser iridotomy when indicated.
• Squints – treats children and adults with squints, managing children with squints with his orthoptic colleagues. He refracts children for glasses and institute occlusion (patching) for managing amblyopia. Perfoms squint surgery when necessary.
• Blocked tear ducts – manages children with blocked tear ducts and performs probing and syringing as appropriate.

• Lid surgery – operates on all kinds of lid lesions, including cysts and chalazia and performs entropion and ectropion correction, electrolysis for trichiasis, blepharoplasty and ptosis surgery.

• Mr Sinha offers intra-vitreal injections of Lucentis and Ozurdex for patients with diabetic retinopathy, maculopathy, branch vein occlusion, central vein occlusion and wet macular degeneration.
