Every private patient can be confident that they will have access to the most comprehensive range of advanced surgical and medical facilities that are only available from a large, specialist NHS Hospital.
The Royal Brompton Hospital has an international reputation for the treatment of lung disease, the result of over 160 years of experience. The lung and heart hospital is a national and international leader in the treatment of heart conditions such as heart disease, with large research trials leading to significant developments in the area.
Lung conditons
The Royal Brompton Hospital is home to Europe's largest centre for the treatment and management of cystic fibrosis. The Royal Brompton Hospital's lung specialists see both UK and international patients suffering from asthma and chronic lung conditions including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) from across the country.
The Royal Brompton Hospital's adult congenital heart disease unit was the first of its kind in Europe and remains the largest.
The hospital's leadership in both these fields allows it to attract the best lung specialists and medical staff from across the world. The hospital's consultants and lung specialists work and teach internationally and publish research papers that set national and international medical standards.
Should they need it, Royal Brompton Hospital's UK and international patients are supported by dedicated adult and paediatric intensive care units. The hospital has seven dedicated adult critical care consultants and one of the country's largest academic research programmes in intensive care medicine. It is also one of the few hospitals in the country to have a Professor of Intensive Care Medicine.
The Royal Brompton Hospital has invested significantly in the latest imaging technology such as CT scanners, which, in many cases, enables the diagnosis of conditions such as heart disease without the use of invasive procedures. Royal Brompton Hospital acquired the UK’s first ever dedicated cardiac CT scanner in 2005, which allows for the diagnosis of coronary disease at an earlier stage than ever before. The hospital is the largest cardiac magnetic resonance centre in the world and over 50 percent of the UK’s cardiovascular magnetic resonance scans (high-definition scans of the heart) are undertaken there.
