Postnatal care in Hertfordshire

The Knutsford Suite is able to provide the rare combination of luxurious private postnatal care whilst also having the reassurance of being based within a large NHS hospital. It is located within the Maternity Unit at Watford General hospital, which is part of West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Maternity Unit delivers over 5,500 babies every year, making it one of the largest birthing units in the United Kingdom. It is supported by an extensive team of consultant obstetricians, anaesthetists, paediatricians. There is also immediate on-site access to an outstanding level 2 Neonatal Unit as well as adult Intensive Care services. 

Medical facilities during labour

During labour you will have access to all of Watford General Hospital’s medical facilities.

Delivery rooms and obstetric theatre

Depending on your medical circumstances, delivery will take place on the Labour Ward, which is made up of seven delivery rooms and two dedicated Obstetric Theatres, as well as two high dependency observation bays. Epidural anaesthetic is available around the clock. For those women with low risk pregnancies, the Alexandra Birthing Centre offers a sensory room and two pool rooms.

Midwives and support staff

There is a dedicated team of midwives and maternity support staff who are focussed on the delivery of care tailored to individual needs. This includes help with breastfeeding, health checks for mother and baby as well as ensuring arrangements are made with your local community midwife in preparation for when you go home.

How to get postnatal care in Hertfordshire?

You can chose to book your care with one of our consultant obstetricians who have extensive experience in private maternity care. If you chose this option antenatal appointments and scans will normally take place at Spire Bushey or Spire Harpenden Hospitals.
