What Bupa can offer

As one of the UK's largest providers of care to older people, Bupa offers a number of services to meet your needs, and you don't have to be a member of a Bupa insurance scheme to benefit.

Treating residents as individuals

In all of Bupa's care homes, they encourage as full and active a lifestyle as possible for each resident. Above all, each resident is treated as an individual, and encouraged to exercise choice in all aspects of their care. Bupa wants residents to feel at home, and rules and regulations are kept to a minimum.

The friendly atmosphere ensures that everyone is able to continue their daily life with personal privacy and dignity, as well as the highest standards of care.

Individual care plans

Each home is run by a home manager experienced in the care of older people. They are supported by trained care assistants and senior care assistants and, in nursing homes, registered nurses. Bupa employs dedicated staff, and their Investor in People accreditation reflects the continuing training and development that their staff receive.

Each resident receives an individual care plan, which is regularly monitored and updated. Additional services such as physiotherapy, chiropody and speech therapy can be arranged. Appointments such as dentists and opticians are also arranged for residents.

Specialist care of the elderly

If you require specialist care, start by talking to your local Bupa care home about your requirements, because many are able to offer specialist care for a variety of conditions. These include senile dementia and Parkinson's Disease, but you may be surprised to know that they can also offer care for younger physically disabled people and for a range of neurological conditions.

Services offered

Specialist care homes

Bupa has various specialist homes designed to care for patients with specific problems. Depending on the level of care required, accommodation may be in a residential or nursing home, or in one of Bupa's specialist units which have experienced staff and specially adapted environments.

Accommodation

Bupa's homes range from purpose built single storey buildings to converted country mansions, so each home is different. Many rooms have en-suite bathrooms, and some homes offer double rooms. In every home, rooms are equipped with modern safety features including a 24-hour call system and smoke detectors. Additionally, most rooms have television and telephone points as well.

In order to make their room as personal as possible, residents are encouraged to bring personal items and small pieces of furniture with them. In many homes small pets may be accommodated by prior arrangement with the manager.

Bupa care home cuisine

Cuisine

Meals at Bupa care homes are prepared each day by the chef manager, using fresh ingredients. There is always a varied menu offering an interesting and nutritious diet. Meals are usually taken in the dining room, but residents may choose to eat in their rooms if they prefer - it's their choice. Our chefs are experienced in catering for special dietary or cultural requirements, and residents' requests are always welcome.

Visitors

Bupa know how important it is for residents to stay in touch with family and friends, so guests are always welcome. There are no set visiting times, and it is up to you whether you meet your visitors in the lounge, the garden or the privacy of your own room. Some homes are also able to offer visitors meals and overnight accommodation.

Fees

Bupa care homes' fees vary according to the resident's individual needs, the type of accommodation and length of stay. You do not need to be a member of a Bupa insurance scheme to receive care in our homes.

The fees cover accommodation, full board and 24 hour qualified care from Bupa care homes' staff. The home manager can also tell you about any items or services which can be arranged at an extra cost.

You may be surprised to know that around 70 per cent of Bupa's residents receive at least some funding from their local authority. In addition, if you are paying for your own care and are assessed as needing nursing care, the NHS will contribute to the costs of that nursing care in a nursing home in England. Different arrangements apply in Scotland and Wales.
