Regents independent midwives provide 24 hour care to all their clients. They understand that each client is different, which is why they provide a selection of different care packages that are tailored to meet your unique needs and requirements.
Regents Midwifery Practice offers an initial consultation which usually lasts about one hour. This appointment, as with all antenatal visits, is a relaxed and unhurried experience, allowing you to develop a trusting relationship with the midwives. It also provides an excellent opportunity to discuss any concerns you have or to ask questions about different maternity packages that may suit your needs. This initial consultation is completely FREE and you are under no obligation to book with the midwives.
If you do choose to book, an appointment will be arranged as early as possible in your pregnancy with your primary midwife. This appointment will include a full antenatal examination including routine blood tests, urinalysis, blood pressure and a complete medical and obstetric history review - all in the comfort of your own home.
Your midwife will arrange for you to have an early nuchal scan via your GP. This can be booked privately, or if you prefer, you can still choose to use the NHS service (by appointing Regents Midwifery Practice you do not opt out of the NHS care). You will be provided with an information pack to support your antenatal care and a set of maternity notes that you will carry with you throughout your pregnancy.
Regents midwives not only provide the standard maternity care that you would expect, but they will also provide practical and useful information on nutrition, exercise, and safety during pregancy to ensure that both you and your baby are operating at optimal health.

Midwife birth services based in North London
The midwives at Regents Midwifery Practice will be with you throughout your labour and birth, wherever you choose to birth. However, they are required to hand over clinical care to the hospital team if you choose to birth in hospital, but will remain with you during your birth as your advocate and support.
Home & water births
Many women are now opting for home births rather than travelling to their local hospital. Regents Midwifery Practice promotes home births for healthy, normal pregnancies as your home is as safe, if not safer than hospital. Regents Midwifery Practice can practice at their full capacity at a home birth, however, they are required to hand over care if you choose to birth in your hospital.
Regents Midwifery Practice specialise in home water births and can assist you with hiring the pool. Women who have water births tend to require less intervention with quicker, easier and more comfortable labours. In addition it provides a gentler birth for the baby as they appear less traumatised by birth.
Where safety is concerned, there is no evidence to suggest that home births are less safe than hospital. The risks associated with a hospital birth such as infection, less one-to-one care, and more medicalisation are often overlooked and can be equal to or greater than the benefit of immediate access to medical attention.

Hospital birth
As you progress with your labour in the comfort of your own home, your midwife will be with you to assess when you will need to be transferred to your hospital. Once admitted, your midwife will need to hand over clinical care to the hospital, however, she will remain with you and act as your advocate and support.

Regents independent midwifery is a group of experienced independent midwives who work autonomously with their clients but with the support, where needed, of other local independent midwives.
Each midwife is responsible for the individual care and support of each expectant mother, providing the security and reassurance of one-to-one care throughout pregnancy. Your midwife may also introduce a secondary midwife for home births and to provide additional professional support where necessary.
All Regents midwives attend regular training updates including a yearly advanced life support in obstetrics course which covers emergency and neonatal emergencies.
