About Midwife Care
Midwife Care is run by Helen Taylor, who qualified as a Registered Midwife in October 1994.
Helen worked for 15 years within the NHS setting, gaining experience in all aspects of midwifery care, in both the hospital as well as the
community setting, including home births and waterbirths.
Whilst working within the
NHS setting, Helen became increasingly frustrated by the lack of opportunity to
offer women/ couples individualised midwifery care to meet their own specific
And so, in 2009, Helen decided to launch her own
Independent Midwifery practice called “Midwife Care”, which covers London and
into North Kent. Midwife Care has grown into a thriving and successful Independent Midwifery practice, and takes immense pride in providing “personal midwifery” care.
Helen’s role as an
Independent Midwife has allowed her to offer women bespoke care, and the “time”
to support them in this unique time of their lives. She really enjoys the continuity of care and
getting to know women/couples during their pregnancy, birth of their baby, and as new parents.
The one to one care and
support from Midwife Care is given in the relaxed environment of the woman’s
own home and can be accessed at any stage of pregnancy and up to 8 weeks
postnatally. Midwifery services cover
antenatal & postnatal appointments, as well as midwife-led antenatal
classes (one-to-one and group). The
appointments are generously timed to allow individualised care, and at flexible
times to suit (day & evening).
Midwife Care also offers women the opportunity to access support in
between appointments, via telephone, text and email contact, which all her
clients seem to particularly appreciate!
Midwife Care does not
currently offer women labour/delivery care, as there is
no Professional Indemnity Insurance available in the UK for Independent
Midwives to cover this service (Insurance
is available to cover Antenatal and Postnatal services)
However, Midwife Care offers women the option
of a labour support service.
- A supplemental service to compliment their
NHS care, offering additional midwifery appointments
- Alternatively full antenatal and postnatal
packages are available. With this option, all clients are still “booked”
with an NHS hospital (or private maternity hospital) for their planned
delivery, but simply access their antenatal and postnatal appointments through
Midwife Care instead of the NHS.
Women can enjoy the benefits of the services offered by Midwife Care,
whilst still making use of their local NHS service. By
choosing Midwife Care, they do not opt out of the NHS entirely.
Independent midwives have the same referral rights as an NHS midwife and are
able to arrange a Consultant or GP appointment, or hospital admission if
required. All antenatal and postnatal screening blood tests and scans can
also be accessed through the NHS too, if preferred.
