Midwife Care: Private midwifery practice covering Central, South and East London and North Kent

Logo - MidwifeCare.co.uk

Midwife Care: Independent and private midwifery services covering Central, South and East London and North Kent, offering one-to-one midwifery home visits for antenatal careantenatal classes, and postnatal care.

The one to one care and support from a personal independent midwife is given in the relaxed environment of the woman’s own home and can be accessed at any stage of pregnancy and up to 8 weeks postnatally. Their services cover antenatal and postnatal appointments, as well as antenatal classes (one to one, as well as group classes). The appointments are generously timed to allow individualised care, and at flexible times to suit (day & evening).

Birth (intrapartum) care is not currently offered as there is no Professional Indemnity Insurance currently available in the UK for independent midwives for intrapartum care.  Midwife Care has full Professional Indemnity Insurance cover for Antenatal Care, Postnatal Care and Antenatal Education.

Midwife Care offers women two options for care:

1.     A supplemental service to compliment their NHS care, offering additional midwifery appointments

2.     Alternatively full antenatal and postnatal packages are available.  With this option, all clients are still “booked” with an NHS hospital (or private maternity hospital) for their planned delivery, but simply access their antenatal and postnatal appointments through Midwife Care instead of the NHS.

Why private and independent midwifery care from Midwife Care?

Over the last few years, the number of antenatal and postnatal appointments for NHS-booked women has been markedly reduced. In addition, clinics are often very busy and the one-to-one time spent between a midwife and pregnant/postnatal lady is frequently time limiting.

Midwife care aims to offer women “personal midwifery”, bespoke to clients needs and wishes.

Women can enjoy the benefits of the services offered by Midwife Care, whilst still making  use of their  local NHS service.  By choosing Midwife Care, they do not opt out of the NHS entirely.  Independent midwives have the same referral rights as an NHS midwife and are able to arrange a Consultant or GP appointment ,or hospital admission if required.  All antenatal and postnatal screening blood tests and scans can also be accessed through the NHS too, if preferred.

About Midwife Care

Midwife Care was launched in December 2009 and has provided personal midwifery support to many women and their partners/families since then.  Midwife Care prides itself on offering bespoke care to meet women’s/couples own individual needs.

Midwife Care is run by Helen Taylor, who qualified as a Registered Midwife in October 1994. She trained at Salisbury NHS Trust, in conjunction with Bournemouth University, for 3 years, and graduated with a BSc (Hons) Degree in Midwifery.

Since qualifying, Helen has worked for South London NHS Trust, gaining experience in all aspects of midwifery care, in both the hospital as well as the community setting, including home births and waterbirths. In the last 11 years she has gained specialist knowledge and expertise in the provision of all aspects of antenatal care, as well as maintaining her intrapartum (labour and delivery) and postnatal midwifery skills. Additionally, in the last two years she undertook a research contract, as a local coordinating midwife, for a Government funded research project called "Birthplace". The study looked at whether morbidity and mortality of mother and baby are affected by the place of birth and was published in November 2011.

Helen very much enjoys her work as a midwife and is passionate about providing individualised bespoke care to her clients.

Helen is a conscientious midwife, keeping herself up-to-date in all areas of practice, and ensuring that she provides evidence-based care. She is married with 3 children and considers herself to have practical parenting skills and knowledge.

Helen continues to work for the NHS on a locum basis and finds this a very powerful tool in keeping abreast with all changes to NHS maternity services, especially  on a local level.
