Understanding hearing loss
Hearing is a precious sense. It allows us to socialise, communicate and be aware of our environment. It keeps us connected to our loved ones and to our everyday world. As hearing loss progresses, we lose these very important social connections.
The team at Cubex strive to help people with hearing loss stay socially connected
and active in their communication world. They understand the challenges faced
with hearing loss and are aware of the demands placed on memory and cognition. Their
consultants take the time to listen to the needs and preferences of each
patient. This individualized approach, coupled with scientifically sound
procedures, ensures that Cubex always find the right solution for their patients.

Tinnitus management programme
many individuals, tinnitus is more of an irritant than a problem. Research has
shown that counselling (informational and adjustment) in combination with sound
stimulation to help reduce the stress associated with tinnitus can be very
useful in managing the negative impact of distressing tinnitus.
The team at Cubex recognise the need for supporting people who experience
distressing tinnitus and hyperacusis. The programme uses a range of management
options which are tailored to meet the patient's personal needs.
Determining how the tinnitus affects a patient's daily life is the first step
in any management programme. It helps
establish the degree and nature of intervention. Counselling therapy aims to
equip patients with the tools and knowledge to manage negative reactions to
tinnitus. This may include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, education and Tinnitus
Retraining Therapy. Most methods of tinnitus management also incorporate
relaxation therapy and the use of sound in some manner to reduce the negative
effects of tinnitus.
Being aware of your hearing is the first step towards saving it!
Hearing loss can affect anyone at any age. You can lose your hearing gradually over time, so you may not notice that you have lost some hearing until it happens.
It's easy to take your hearing for granted but if you look after your ears now, you can prevent acquiring a hearing loss later. One of the most important things you can do is to protect your ears from excessive noise levels, particularly over long periods of time. The louder the noise is and the longer you are exposed to it, the greater the risk of damage to your hearing.
