Preventicum MRI

What is an MRI scan?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field - instead of X-rays - to provide extremely accurate images of the body, including a 3D image of the patients beating heart. MRI scanning is based on the representation of the magnetic characteristics of water protons, which exist in large numbers inside the body. The basis for the examination is provided by a strong magnetic field inside the tunnel of the MRI scanner. Read more...

MRI angiography - MRI scan of the arteries

The MRI scan includes angiogram technology that scans the body's whole arterial tree in under 10 minutes. 3D images are available and they are of such high quality that they allow accurate diagnosis of stenosis (vascular narrowing) and aneurysm (vascular enlargement), as well as more subtle vascular changes and plaque deposits on the vascular walls. MRI scan of the brain

The brain is scanned with several MRI imaging sequences, all in 10 to 15 minutes. Firstly, the smaller cerebral arteries are scanned to rule out stenosis and aneurysm and then the brain tissues are examined. As well as eliminating tumours, the main reason to scan the brain is to analyse blood circulation in order to prevent a stroke. Small changes in circulation and previous strokes can be identified using MRI technology.  Read more...

MRI colonoscopy

An MRI colonoscopy can detect colonic tumours in their very early stages. 90% of colon cancers develop from polyps in the colon and if detected, they can usually be easily removed. Colonoscopy using MRI is painless and only mildly uncomfortable. Warm water will be introduced into the colon before the examination and patients will need to drink a laxative the day before to ensure an empty bowel.

Other abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys and spleen will be assessed during this part of the MRI. Read more...

MRI scan of the heart - Cardiac muscle and cardiac valves

MRI imaging of the heart primarily assesses the function of the cardiac muscle and valves. The doctor will have a valuable insight into the pumping action of the patient’s heart and will be able to confirm if the valves are functioning correctly. A more detailed MRI scan is then taken to analyse all the heart functions. Small disturbances in the movement of the heart wall indicate circulatory disorders or damage that may have already occurred. MRI imaging of the heart takes approximately 20 minutes. Read more...

After the MRI scan, patients will be shown all of the images by Preventicum's radiologist, who will explain the results of the MRI with a virtual tour of body.
