Dental examination

The dental examination shows how healthy your mouth is. After the examination you and the dentist can discuss the results and plan the best way to deal with any problems.

Dental implants

Dental implants are one method of replacing missing teeth. A post is implanted in the jawbone itself and when this is healed replacement teeth can be attached to the implant. There are various types of implant and all are not suitable for every patient. Your dentist will advise on what is the best and most lasting solution for you.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers can greatly improve your appearance. They hide imperfections and you lose very little natural tooth. Veneers also protect teeth from any more damage. For example acid in foods and drinks or from the stomach can cause your teeth to wear away. The teeth become thin and week but veneers can protect them. If the tooth is strong, a veneer is often a better option than a crown for improving a tooth's appearance.

Teeth whitening

Teeth are stained by the food and drinks we consume. Smoking further stains teeth and the natural bright, white shade becomes darkened. Teeth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. The degree of whiteness achieved will vary from patient to patient and with the type of bleaching process chosen.

White/porcelain fillings (inlays and onlays)

There are a number of attractive alternatives to the traditional "sliver" fillings. White fillings look more natural (they come in different shades to match your own teeth) and they can be used to reshape and rebuild broken edges or worn teeth and even to cover marks that cannot  be removed in other ways.

Inlays and onlays are made outside the mouth, usually in a laboratory and usually from a hard porcelain material, and then glued to the tooth in the surgery. They are strong and natural looking.

Crowns

A crown completely covers a weak tooth above the gum line and protects it. Crowns are made of porcelain, metal or a mixture of both and are very strong. They are built to the exact shape and size required. Crowns can last many years when looked after properly.

Bridges

Bridges are used where one or more teeth are already missing. They help you to chew and speak properly and help maintain the shape of your face. The teeth on a bridge are made in a similar way to crowns.

Dental hygiene

Dental Hygienists are a vital part of Bangor West Dental & Implant Clinic's team. They play an important role in dental health care, helping to prevent dental and gum disease. Apart from scaling and polishing your teeth, they can advise on effective cleaning at home and on diet and other factors that play a role in maintaining good oral health.
