Professor Videsh Raut
Professor Videsh Raut is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery and sports injuries. Using the latest techniques and offering compassionate, personalised care, he provides private assessment and treatment for knee problems using the standard and the latest Patient Specific Computerised Instrumentation at independent hospitals across Northwest-West England and has excellent published personal results and outcomes.
He has been awarded UK’s National Silver Clinical Excellence Award for his outstanding Clinical results, and contribution to Research and Teaching.
Training and experience
Following his basic orthopaedic training in India, Professor Raut trained in the UK as a Registrar in Orthopaedics at Oswestry and as a Senior Registrar at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham Hospital. Choosing to specialise in knee surgery he completed Fellowships at Wrightington Hospital in Wigan, Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto and the Mayo Clinic in the USA.
Since 1996, Professor Raut has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the internationally renowned Wrightington Hospital and the Lancashire Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (Chorley). Wrightington Hospital is a centre of excellence in the treatment of musculo-skeletal disease; it was here in the 1960s that Professor Sir John Charnley pioneered Joint replacement surgery.
Professor Raut is Honorary Professor at Edge Hill University where he runs the Masters Degree Programme in Orthopaedics (MChOrth). He is an Expert member on North West Ethics Committee for UK, and is Academic Advisor to University of Manchester.
He is a UK Advisory Board Member on National Orthopaedic Committees, a Reviewer - SICOT International Orth. Journal and he is on the Editorial Board - EC Orthopaedics Journal
Personal outcomes
Professor Raut published his personal results of Total Knee Replacement surgery in International Orthopaedica in 2007 which showed a 97.04% survivorship of the artificial joint at 9 years. These were further updated and published in Journal of Orthopaedics in 2012 showing a 93.4% survivorship at 14 years with a maximum follow-up of 20 years.
He has published the results of his Personal technique of Bunion Surgery in the American Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery showing 96% good results.
In his 23 years as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Professor Raut has had no incidence of nerve damage, blood vessel injury or MRSA during Knee replacement surgery.
Customised knee replacement
Professor Raut is skilled in patient-specific knee replacement surgery, a cutting edge technique to custom-fit the replacement knee prosthesis to the individual's anatomy. MRI or CT scans of the patient's knee are used to construct a 3D computer model from which the prosthesis is then moulded. Surgery times with this technique are consistent and there is excellent accuracy in positioning achieved with the customised prosthesis

He is a regular contributor to the academic literature (48 Publications in International peer-reviewed journals) and is a respected speaker at national and international conferences.
