David Elliot has been a consultant surgeon for 22 years. He is the senior hand surgeon of the St. Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery in Broomfield Hospital , Chelmsford , which currently treats over 4000 hand emergencies yearly. He was an Open Scholar of Oxford University, a holder of the Kay-Kilner prize of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and of the Pulvertaft prize of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and is the author of 95 publications on clinical subjects in the fields of plastic and hand surgery with current interests in all hand trauma surgery, finger reconstructive techniques, flexor and extensor tendon surgery, Dupuytren's disease and the surgical treatment of peripheral nerve pain. He is a past President of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (2005), past Editor of the European Journal of Hand Surgery (2005-2007), past President of the British Association of Hand Therapists (1995-1998), a past Chairman of the Flexor Committee of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand and a past examiner of the diploma of the Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand (1996-99). He is a past Foundation Speaker in Hand Surgery of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (2001), the Venkataswami orator of the Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand (2004), the Kleinert-Kutz Professor in Louisville (2006), Visiting Hand Professor in South Africa (2006). He is a regular guest of the APSI (guest speaker 1998, 1999, 2002, Presidential Speaker 2006, Godrej Orator 2007).
