Jamie Wilson of Simplyhealth gives his views on what lies ahead, "2011 will herald the biggest NHS shake up in its 60 year history. The NHS White Paper plans to put patients at the heart of the health service, giving them more information and more choice. It will also encourage people to take personal responsibility for their health. This goal is to be admired, and is something we support. The NHS White Paper is no quick fix. Costs are rising and our health needs are changing. The reality is that the NHS will be under extreme pressure to meet those needs on a minimal budget, and in a climate of radical reorganisation and job losses. A promise to ensure patients get cancer test results within a week has been scrapped, and generally waiting lists may increase. Tough decisions are already being made about what services can be provided by the NHS locally.”

Wilson goes on to explain how insurance fits in, "Simplyhealth has always helped to relieve the burden on the NHS, by providing affordable medical insurance, cash plans and dental plans. As the NHS changes, our role will be brought into sharp focus and we must ensure we adapt to the changes that lie ahead. By being flexible, listening to our customers and responding to their needs we can provide additional choice, and continue to support our customers whilst the NHS comes under pressure in 2011."
